Energy Design
Whether you are building a new home, enlarging on an existing one or just trying to make the one you’re in more comfortable and efficient, you can’t be successful with out a complete Energy Design.
In the old days, when they built leaky, uninsulated houses, contractors put 1 ton of A/C for every 500 SQ feet of house and installed leaky, poorly insulated and designed ductwork. Homes were not totally comfortable and indoor air quality was not very good. The uninsulated walls, floors and windows were cold in winter and outside air flushed through the house so often; indoor air quality was determined by neighborhood conditions.
Modern homes are much tighter, (almost air tight) super insulated with warm, radiant protected windows. Unfortunately, contractors are still putting 1 ton of A/C for every 500 SQ feet of house and still installing poorly designed, leaky ductwork.
When Electric and gas rates were really cheap and outside air overwhelmed any duct leakage concerns this lack of design didn’t much matter. Now fuel cost are very high and getting higher and because our houses are so tight poor duct design and duct leakage create expensive, unhealthy and potentially dangerous pressure imbalances within the house.
It takes a large fan to create any pressure (positive or negative) on a leaky house. The smallest fan can create a pressure on our new, tight homes. Plus now we have bath and kitchen exhaust, clothes dryers, and leaky duct systems pulling air into and out of our homes. These pressure imbalances (air leaving one room under fan pressure and another from outside) can prevent fireplaces, furnaces and water-heaters from fully exhausting their poisonous fumes. It almost always causes uncomfortable rooms, humidity and mold problems, increased dust, much higher utility bills.
Energy Master Home, Inc. understands the “house is a system” and when you change one thing you affect everything else. If one room needs more air, others must get less. Tighten your home and you may prevent combustion devices from fully exhausting their fumes. Change windows and every room needs could vastly change depending on the type of glass used.
Whether you are building new or fixing old houses, Energy Master Home, Inc. can analyze your plans or test your home and help you create a complete Energy Design that takes all such matters into consideration. Insulation levels; air-tightness; solar-exposure; type of windows and doors; exhaust fans; fireplaces, water-heaters and furnaces; number of occupants; roof and crawl space venting; even lighting and appliances are all measured and calculated so that you avoid all the typical problems.
The result is a higher-efficient, totally comfortable home with incredible indoor air quality. It will have the lowest bills and the smallest quietest system in the neighborhood, but still deliver even comfort in every room regardless of outdoor conditions. The building will last longer and be worth more then any of your neighbors.
